Melbourne Racing Club to deliver OHS training online with iFocus’ iLearn platform

10 July 2006

Melbourne Racing Club leads the racing industry in operational health & safety (OH&S) and in 2005 became Australia’s first racing venue to have an accredited safety management system. The club has now strengthened its commitment to OH&S with the purchase of a unique web-based workplace safety and induction software solution called the iLearn Platform

iLearn has been developed by IT services company iFocus and is becoming the preferred choice for the sports and leisure management industry: iLearn is currently used by the Melbourne Cricket Club, Melbourne & Olympic Parks, Brisbane Airport and Melbourne Airport.

Melbourne Racing Club will use the program to train and induct all permanent and casual staff, contractors and horse-racing personnel located at the Caulfield and Sandown racecourses, along with all staff at two Tabaret venues operated by the Club. The iLearn platform will be implemented in late July.

Stephen Goss, Manager of Risk & Compliance at Melbourne Racing Club, said that the Club aimed to take their systems to another level, aiming for Advanced accreditation. "We are serious about safety and are prepared to commit the resources to make it work.

"One of the biggest obstacles to achieving this goal was finding a way to train and induct the huge variety of personnel that move through the Club daily. Attempting this via face-to-face methods proved difficult, but with the iLearn platform we estimate that over 1,000 people a year will be trained and inducted", Mr Goss said.

iLearn is a web-based Learning Content Management system (LCMS) which is time and cost efficient when compared to face-to-face learning. The learning content can be easily managed and edited by the Club without the need for highly technical knowledge or programming skills. This approach was important to Melbourne Racing Club as it reduces the reliance on external vendors to maintain and update the content.

Melbourne Racing Club chose iLearn over other eLearning solutions because of its strong track record in sports and entertainment, and expects the platform to deliver cost savings over time.

Greg Muller, Managing Director of iFocus, said the solution puts flexibility and ease of use first. "We developed iLearn with the user in mind at every stage. Users can log into the system anytime, anywhere using a variety of bandwidths. iLearn is highly adaptable, and provides organisations with the ability to manage and control their content centrally to suit their requirements."
